Linking files in your posts

WordPress has a limit of 2 megabytes per file that you can upload. This page is a guide to show how you can get around that limit.

Step 1 – Connect to your network account through Cyberduck, Filezilla, or FTP Client of your choice

Step 2 – Inside the “Sites” folder of your account, create a new folder or directory called “Media” or “Sounds”

Step 3 – Open that folder/directory and upload your file to it.

Step 4 – Go to a web browser (like Chrome or Firefox) and go to your web space (sites.bxmc.poly.edu/~<username>) and open the folder/directory that you uploaded your file to.

Step 5 – Right-click the link to the file and select “Copy Link Address”/”Copy Link Location”/etc

Step 6 – Log into your WordPress. Make a new post and click on the “Add Media” button. Select the option on the left to “Insert from URL”. Paste the link you copied into the first field. You should now see a media player for your audio file. Click on the “Insert into Post” button on the bottom right.

Step 7 – Your audio file is now inside the post and can be played.
