What is Proto Lab?

Proto Lab is IDM’s fabrication space. It’s run by a team of dedicated students and staff. Our goal is support IDM students and faculty by lowering the barrier of entry to physical prototyping and fostering collaboration among students. 

How to Get Started

The first step to accessing Proto Lab is attending one of our safety trainings. Once you have completed the training, you are welcome to use any machines or resources in the space. The Proto Lab is open any time a student technician is on duty. Some of our machines require a reservation.

The staff of the Proto Lab are not just there to oversee the equipment; we are also available to consult with you on your projects and assignments. Technicians can assist in recommending materials, construction techniques, prototyping methods, and much more.
