Featured student Tamanda Msosa
Tamanda is a creative technologist/tinkerer and student of life who creates installations, things and experiences using physical computing and functional programming interdisciplinarily. He has an MS in Integrated Digital Media from NYU Tandon and BTech in Emerging Media from New York City College of Technology. He has previously showcased his work at Maker Faire 2017 and NYC Media Lab 2018. His recent collaborations include working with Pioneer Works to assist Carolyn Lazard in her “Extended Stay” 2019 Whitney Biennial piece and Meriem Bennani’s “Mission Teens” piece as well. Other notable art events include assisting Wild Flags Studios with building their “Footprints” 2019 Venice Biennale installation. He has also assisted Smooth Technology in building and setting up the 2019 Nerf Ultra One Championship in NYC.
In his leisure time he can be found skateboarding where he draws appreciation for the culture, physical aspect of things and people which in turn informs his design and creative process.
His independent work includes assisting Doreen Garner with the technology inside her “Heard From Her Larynx: Sandra” centerfold at JTT Gallery located in the Lower East Side and creating the visuals for Venus Chun’s Earth element for her “THE FIVE ELEMENTS” show at Jump Into The Light in the same vicinity. Gabriella Cammarata
My mission is to advance the practice of industrial design through smart and meaningful integration of emerging technology in consumer products. My passion for advanced manufacturing, design for children, and assistive technology have informed both my design practice and standards. A user-centered design process enables me to derive creative solutions from careful analysis of users’ needs.
I completed my bachelor’s degree in industrial design at the Istituto d’Arte Applicata e Design in Turin, Italy. During this period I had an internship in Mexico City and continued on to work in design studios in Milan. Studying and working abroad has taught me first hand the delicate balance between communication, cultural norms and effective design.
This lesson was reinforced when I attended NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering for my master’s degree. Being a creative professional in an engineering environment highlighted both the strengths and weaknesses of my design-saturated background. While at Tandon I was able to hone my research and testing skills while working on truly multi-disciplinary teams.
Now I am currently at NYU Tandon resuming my interests as a Studio Research Coordinator, where I am getting students excited for the possibilities of physical design/prototyping and working alongside faculty on new methods of physical design printing and fabrication.
We live in a physical world. Technology will continue to advance and our physicality will continue to persist. Responsible industrial design takes into account the potential of emerging technology in order to enhance both our digital and physical products.

Charlotte Biszewski, IDM Artist in Residence
Charlotte Biszewski, b. 1988 in Bristol UK, is an award-winning printmaker, new media artist and researcher. Her work explores collaborative approaches to storytelling, through hybrid obsolete print processes and digital technology. She embraces the changing role of the contemporary artist, accessibly engaging audiences and avoiding traditional gallery spaces.
She is fascinated by the role of print from historical and contemporary perspectives, the implications of its process and permanent qualities in the digital age. Her work involves memories, oral history and storytelling, investigating traditional forms of communication in a networked and globalised world.
Since graduating from an MA in multidisciplinary printmaking in 2013, she led a collaborative multi-faceted project called, Bristol Set in Print. It investigated the role of the industrial print in Bristol, through a series of skill-share workshops, an award-winning documentary and a public installation. In 2017, she moved to Poland on a hunt to discover her family history. Poland with its regard for art and literature and extensive history of underground or ‘second circulation’ print media, inspired further research into the role of censorship and control in digital and print communication.
Currently studying a PhD in Digital and Experimental Print at Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. She was awarded the Visegrad Scholarship 2019, The Rebecca-Smith Award for Fine-Art Printmaking and The WCA Doktoral Award 2019 for her PhD research project.
