Serves: 6 (macros are per sausage roll)
🧀Ingredients
Beef Mixture
-1 lb (453 g) 95/5 ground beef
-½ onion, finely diced
-2 cloves garlic, minced
-1 tbsp (15 g) Worcestershire sauce
-½ teaspoon salt
-black pepper to taste
-1 egg white
Rolls
-3 low-fat cheese sticks (or string cheese, cut in half), I use Edam cheese sticks
-4 sheets (144 g) filo pastry, about 4 sheets of pastry, cut into about 2in (5 cm) strips
-1 oz egg white (for coating pastry)
👨🍳Instructions
-Preheat oven 400 F (200 C)
-Mix beef, onion, garlic, seasonings, and binding egg white
-Cut each mozzarella stick in half.
-Lay each sheet of pastry on top of each other and cut filo pastry into 2in (5 cm) strips.
Assemble
-Divide beef into 6 portions.
-Place mozzarella piece in center of each portion and wrap the beef completely around the cheese stick.
-Place beef-wrapped cheese at edge of pastry strip and roll up.
-Brush tops with egg white.
-Place on lined baking sheet.
-Bake 22-25 minutes until golden and cooked through 160 F (71 C)
Storage:
-Refrigerate up to 4 days
-Freeze up to 3 months
-Reheat at 350°F in the oven for 10-15 min to keep the pastry crispy until hot through or microwave
